About
I live in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. For 15 years, I have worked across primary, secondary and specialist educational settings, supporting children and young people with SpLDs, autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, and severe and complex needs.
I have always loved reading. At secondary school, I was a paired reader, helping younger pupils who found reading harder, and at university I ran story hubs to help Key Stage 1 and 2 children improve their reading. I went on to work as a primary literacy assistant and then a teaching assistant, which gave me a taste for working in education.
Youth work led me to psychology because I wanted to understand why some young people refused school and didn't meet their targets. I then spent a couple of years as an assistant speech and language therapist in the NHS, and several years in educational psychology for a Local Authority.
Again and again I saw children who were anxious about school because of their difficulties. Then I received my own dyslexia diagnosis, and that spurred me on to complete my specialist training.
I am passionate about literacy and believe everybody can learn and progress in the right environment with the right type of support.
